June is for Film Lovers

News Release Date:
6 June 2012

June is Film Lover's month at the Cinematheque and we are a flutter with cool collateral, screenings and a fabulous upcoming event!

On Saturday, June 16th, we will host our 4th Annual Open House with a screening of 2001: A Space Odyssey. It is a rare opportunity to see this film on the BIG screen along with popcorn and a bottle of Whistler Water. And the best part is the event is FREE. We will also open up the projection booth, library and archive for public tours. Plus, you will meet the people behind the Cinematheque as staff and Board will be on site to chat all things film.

For those who can't make it on the 16th, 2001 is programmed as an amazing double-bill with The Tree of Life. All I kept thinking as I watched this film at home on my small TV was this must be seen on the BIG screen. So, if you are like me and missed it during its first run, come down and see it as it should be viewed - larger then life.

And how can you show you are a Film Lover? Well, we have two ways this month. Our $2 Film Lover Donor card can be bought during any screening and gives you the opportunity to tell Cinematheque audiences your favourite film (Mine is It's A Wonderful Life) by displaying your card on our donor wall. Secondly, for anyone who makes a donation of $10 or more, you will receive a set of six exclusive postcards with cool Cinematheque program guide images. To truly appreciate the quality of these cards, you need to see them. I'm not mailing my set to anyone but coveting close with a plan to frame them as they are a limited run. Once they are gone, they are gone for good.

June is for Film Lovers. Now show your love for the Cinematheque!
